Mutu late goal
Fiorentina remained in the top four on Sunday as Adrian Mutu scored a last-second goal to give the club a dramatic 2-1 win over Chievo at Artemio Franchi.
Santiago Morero had the visitors on top in the 13th minute, but Alberto Gilardino leveled things in the 73rd before Chievo’s Vincenzo Italiano picked up a second yellow card and Mutu fired home the winner in a frantic final 10 minutes.
Fiorentina pressed the action over the remainder of the half, but the Chievo defense did well to keep them out, with the best chance coming from Felipe Melo’s deflected shot that flew just over the crossbar.
Stephen Makinwa could have doubled Chievo’s lead in the second half but he shot over the net, and the hosts finally equalized in the 73rd minute.
Manuel Pasqual’s floated cross from the left wing hung up perfectly for Gilardino to head into the corner, giving goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino no chance.
Italiano picked up a second booking for a hard foul on Per Kroldrup with eight minutes to play, and with just seconds remaining in the match, Mutu unleashed a fantastic shot from outside the box that found the net at the final whistle.
